Not all relationships between Knight Masters and Battle Maidens start out smoothly. Having spent many days without sleep and little food, an attack by the most feared and hated species of the Galaxy was sufficient to stretch his patience to the breaking point. His meeting with the Neptune Zirconium did not leave the best first impression.
Drammasoi Fleet, Belkan Command Ship, Battle Frigate Ragnarok; Battle Bridge
"Tell me about the Master Pilot aboard ship," is the first command from the Knight Major to her when he steps off the Transfer Mat onto the metal grating that made up the floor of the Transmat Chamber on board the Belkan Transfer Shuttle Juliet.
The Neptune Zirconium can hardly believe the audacity of the youth who is to be her CO for the duration of the mission. Weren't knights supposed to be chivalrous and gallant? This boy who hardly appeared old enough to shave was anything but chivalrous and gallant. If anything, he was rude and presumptuous. It would take a least a standard day before the Transfer Shuttle rendezvoused with the Battle Cruiser Ragnarok and Sankt Kaiser only knew how long the battle against the Aratus would take. She dreaded the time she would spend under this careless child's command.
Then as the hours passed, a pair of Lieutenants, Katherine Jess and Owen Jesslaw, brings him files and multiple stems of steaming Kasher and mugs of rich Turkish coffee. As they leave the cramped office that the Knight was assigned to, they give Neptune Zirconium disgusted looks. Neptune finds that she cannot wander the shuttle without drawing criticism. Despite his rudeness, the boy Knight is apparently popular in this sector of the Galaxy.
"Why are you not with your Knight Master, Maid?" the Captain of the Transfer Shuttle, Rosette Clemente, demanded. "Why are my Lieutenants doing your duties to the Knight Major? Knight Hawkeye, who has not slept in three days, should be resting and regaining his strength and sharpening his mind, not working, and it is your task as a Battle Maid to serve your Knight Master! So why are you not completing your duties?"
Properly chastised, Neptune Zirconium returned to her Knight Master with a stein of spiced Warmer.
"Finally decided to do your duty, have you?" the Knight said drily. "Hurry up and tell me what forces we have available. The sooner this is done, the sooner I can have at least four hours before we rendezvous with the Ragnarok."
"As the Officer wishes," the Neptune Zirconium bowed her head and activated her neural lace and accessed the Fleet Network and began rattling off figures and Officer Profiles as she should have done to begin with.
Eighteen hours later, when the Knight rose from the berth, rested, though not sufficiently for the Shuttle's Medic's liking, she found that he was a much more easygoing and tolerable person than she had initially thought. And he was far more mature and responsible than other boys his age.
